  1. Ensure to Power ON the Extender.
  2. Locate the WPS button on the extender and Press it. The Device to Extender LED and Link Rate LED will blink green for two minutes.
  3. Wait for two minutes and press the WPS button on your WiFi router.

If you want to extend the band of your WiFi router while it supports the 5 GHz band (not all routers do), repeat this process and check whether 5 GHz Link Rate LED lights turned green or not to confirm the connection

Follow the below steps to connect the extender to your WiFi router:

  1. Open the WiFi connection Manager on any of your devices such as on your computer, smartphone, or tablet. Open it and connect to the extender network called NETGEAR_EXT.
  2. Once connected to the extender, Device to Extender LED light will turn solid green.
  3. Now open any web browser. If you’re connecting to the extender for the first time you need to Create Account screen displays. If it is not created, go to http://mywifiext.net or mywifiext web page.
  4. Complete the required fields and click the NEXT button.
  5. You need to press the Nighthawk WiFi RANGE EXTENDER button. It will start locating the nearby WiFi signals and display a list of available networks.

6. In case you do not wish to extend the bands, uncheck both 2.4GHz WiFi Networks and the 5 GHz WiFi Networks checkbox.

  1. Ensure your WiFi network is not hidden. In that case, you need to Manually set it up. Tap the Manually input my wireless SSID radio button and type the name of your WiFi network

  3. It will ask you to give a name to your extended networks, once done click the NEXT button. These settings will be applied to the extender’s WiFi. In simpler terms, its WiFi network names and passwords will change to the ones you entered just now. You must disconnect the extender from the computer and WiFi network to make this change.
  4. A WiFi network manager will be used on a computer or any device connected to WiFi to connect to the new extended WiFi network. Click the Continue button.

How do I update my Netgear Nighthawk Firmware?

The Netgear Nighthawk WiFi extender is by default updates the firmware whenever available unless you have changed the settings. If you’d like to check a new firmware update manually, and update it if available, follow below steps:

  1. Open a computer or any wireless device that is connected with the Nighthawk extender network, open a web browser.
  2. Enter www.mywifiext.net or open https://www.mywifiext.com web page  in the URL/ address bar of the web browser.
  3. It will ask you to fill your email address and password in the fields. Once logged in, from the Menu icon extender’s menu will display.
  4. Tap on Settings > Firmware Update. Tap on the Check Online button.
  5. Onscreen instruction will prompt you to download the new Firmware (if a new one is available) A zip file will be downloaded to your device, you might need to unzip the firmware file.
  6. Tap on the browse button. Browse the downloaded file and select it. The firmware file name generally ends with a .chk extension.

7. Tap the Upload button. The firmware update will start and your Nighthawk extender will restart. This process will take a few minutes to complete.

NOTE: After clicking the Upload button, do not try to access the internet. Don’t turn OFF the extender or shut down the computer, or anything else to the extender until it finishes this process.
